SUPPORTING SEA TURTLE CONSERVATION PROGRAM
OF RIVIERA MAYA – TULUM

Tulum Foundation A.C. and Flora, Fauna y Cultura de México, A.C. share the same principles of contributing to the conservation of natural and cultural heritage of México, therefore they expressed interest in establishing a partnership to support the development of Sea Turtle Conservation Program, Riviera Maya – Tulum, operated by Flora, Fauna y Cultura de México A.C. on the central coast of Quintana Roo.

The Sea Turtle Conservation Program, Riviera Maya – Tulum was created to protect, monitor, investigate and conserve the population of sea turtles that come and spawn in the main nesting beaches of the Central Coast of Quintana Roo.

The program covers 13 nesting beaches totaling 34km of beaches with a total length of 120km from the coastline of Punta Venado, South of Xcaret, to the Biosphere Reserve of Sian Ka’an, which makes it the largest program of its kind in the country. The beaches that are protected are operated through six turtle camps: Aventuras-DIF, Xcacel, Xel-há, Tankah, Kanzul and Lirios Balandrín.

We at the Tulum Foundation are convinced that the way to support this program is through awareness, both with locals as well as the tourism that arrives. Which is why we invite interested participants to the turtle release program at the Xcacel turtle camp.

A conversation about sea turtles protection was provided with information about the conservation activities they use in the Program, and the way in which beachgoers in nesting season can contribute to the preservation of sea turtles. Subsequently we had the turtle release under the appropiate direction and proceedings.
